I’m riding a train through Switzerland right now, thinking about how I got to be here – “living the dream”. One major source of influence on the course of my life that comes to mind is the time I spent attending and working at Camp Koochiching. Of course, without the people who make up the Kooch community, it would just be a dot on a map. All the people who work at Kooch devote months of their time to teach young men how to live and travel in the wilderness. They have inspired people like me and others to live life adventurously and to seek the joy of being alive.
Brian Hagg is one of the men who gave his time to make a difference in the lives of others at Camp Koochiching. Brian has recently undergone extensive treatment for brain cancer. Despite never having had the opportunity to paddle or hike with Brian, I was still influenced by his great attitude around camp and know that he had a positive influence on many of my good friends. Brian also devoted his life outside of camp to helping others.
It is important also to thank people like Brian who devote time to creating positive experiences for others. Brian: thanks for being a part of the Koochiching community and therefore inspiring me to live my life to the fullest – sending good vibes for a strong recovery.
A gofundme campaign has been set up to help Brian raise money to pay the hefty bills that accompany the battle against cancer. So, instead of buying that extra-large, 8-dollar, orange mocha frappucino at Starbucks today, donate that money towards Brian’s medical bills because you don’t actually need to spend 8 dollars on a cup of coffee.
